LCARS Unused Reel Opener

I created this reel opener about 6 months ago to start my current reel, but decided not to use it, as it doesn't really match my style. However, I decided to share it here, in case you were unclear as to the depths of my obsession with Star Trek, The Next Generation. It is inspired by LCARS (which stands for Library Computer Access/Retrieval System), the computer operating system displays in Star Trek, which, to me, are beautiful.

Field Trip Day

Last year, Atlas Obscura hosted 6 events all over the US to celebrate Field Trip, a great app from Google (of which Atlas Obscura is a proud publishing partner). I completely forgot to share this video that I edited, recapping the day from coast to coast.

This month and next, Atlas is hosting another round of Field Trip Days in London, New York, Seattle, and LA. Tomorrow afternoon is Brooklyn's event in Red Hook, and we are deep in Field Trip goods here at the Atlas office. I spent most of yesterday stamping bags, assembling the welcome packs, and prepping the signage.

I had a blast working on it all - I'm always delighted to get away from the computer for a few hours. Reserve tickets here: Field Trip Day, explore Red Hook, and be prepared for lots of surprises. Hope to see you there!

Works in Progress

I thought I'd share some screenshots of a few projects I'm working right now. I should have a handful of new work coming out in the next few months! I CAN'T WAIT!

This is from a book trailer I'm working on about neurology. I couldn't be more delighted to be animating BRAINS!

Screen shot 2013-08-02 at 4.45.43 PM This is a lineup of characters I designed for another book trailer about dieting. I have never made so many little people in my life! In case you're curious, my favorite one is the short man with the orange hair and beard (5th over from the right). Doesn't he look like he'd be so nice? I want him to be my friend.

Screen shot 2013-08-06 at 2.49.42 PM This one is from a video that's just about finished, but is for internal use by a new hair product company, so I'm not sure if I will ever be able to share it. You'll just have to take my word for it that it's a work of genius.

Three New Book Trailers, and a Page to Put Them On

Though not released to the internet at large yet, I've been given the go-ahead to share three new book trailers I created here. Drunk with power, I also decided to make a new page on the site just for book trailers. I want to make them all the time! Do you need book trailers? Call this guy! Here are the recent three. Unlike the other book trailers I've done, I got to actually read these three books before I made the trailers. I would especially recommend Life After Life, coming out in March. Such a good book.

Life After Life by Kate Atkinson

Countdown by Alan Weisman

The Hive by Gil Hornby
